i'm currently listening to some fifth wave and i wanna talk about it. if you're not familiar with it, the scene first came around in 2019 with the release of the album "come in" by weatherday, which many would agree to be the foundational text of fifth wave as we know it today. it is a largely online genre, called fifth wave as a shortening of fifth wave emo. a lot of people who are into emo think that fifth wave isn't realmo bc it is extremely experimental in nature; it takes influence from a lot of different alt music and incorporates electronic stuff. in my opinion, all of fifth wave has the emo sound no matter what it's inspired by. weatherday and glass beach have two drastically different approaches while preserving that (scr)emo sound. both bands are cool asf imo, and even though they sound completely different, they come from the same kind of philosophy which is why they're part of the same genre. nearly every important band or individual in the genre is trans, too, which is just awesome imo.
